Spring Forward: Don`t Let Daylight Saving Time Catch You Off Guard!

Rise and shine, Seattle! This weekend marks the return of Daylight Saving Time, which means it's time to spring forward! On Sunday, March 9th, at 2:00 AM, we’ll all set our clocks ahead one hour. Sure, we might lose an hour of sleep, but we gain more daylight in the evenings—and who doesn’t love that?

As your local real estate expert, I’m here to remind you that this seasonal time shift isn’t just about adjusting your clocks; it’s also a great time to take care of some home maintenance tasks! Here are a few quick things you can check off your to-do list while you're at it:

  1. Test Those Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Just like changing the clocks, checking your smoke and CO detectors should be a twice-a-year ritual. Replace batteries if needed and make sure they’re in good working order. Safety first!

  2. Give Your HVAC System Some Love
Your heating and cooling system works hard year-round. Take a moment to replace your air filters, and if it’s been a while, schedule a professional tune-up to keep things running smoothly.

  3. Adjust Your Outdoor Lighting
With longer daylight hours ahead, you might want to tweak the timers on your outdoor lights. If you’re thinking of selling your home, strategic lighting can boost curb appeal and help your home shine—literally!

  4. Check Window & Door Seals
As the days warm up, now is the perfect time to inspect window and door seals for any drafts or leaks. This small step can improve energy efficiency and keep your home comfortable as we transition into spring.

  5. Plan Your Spring Projects
With extra daylight in the evening, now is a great time to tackle those home improvement projects. Whether it's sprucing up your landscaping, refreshing your front door color (hint: this boosts curb appeal!), or finally organizing the garage, longer days mean more time to get things done!

Bonus Tip: Set Those Smart Home Devices

Don’t forget to update the time on your appliances, microwaves, and—if you’re rocking a smart home setup—make sure your devices are synced up to the new time. Many will adjust automatically, but it never hurts to double-check!

While losing an hour of sleep may not be the most exciting news, the extra daylight and the fresh start of spring certainly are! If you’re thinking about buying or selling this season, I’d love to help you make the most of this bright and beautiful time of year.

Happy (almost) Spring! And don’t forget to set those clocks forward!
